God gives us ministry

Hi again everyone-it's Martha.

For the past year and a half, I've been involved with a ministry called Lifesavers. No, not the candy:) It is a ministry providing help to ladies facing crisis pregnancies. It promotes life as the only choice in an unplanned pregnancy. Each Tuesday morning, at about 8am a lady from church picks up my friend and I, and for the whole morning and sometimes into the afternoon, we are in the heart of Gloversville, NY at Lifesavers. For those of you who don't know, Gloversville was once the hub of America's glove-making industry, making it a desirable place to live. Since the industry went under, however, it has become anything but that. The women (and sometimes men) that come into Lifesaver's all have their own story and are looking for someone who cares about them. It is an extremely needy city where poverty and crime is rampant. Lifesaver's is a light in a very dark place. Each week, a lot of moms come to a class called Soulutions, which gives them practical advice on parenting and raising babies and children of all ages. It is a Christian organization and the moms have a devotion as well. My friend Alyssa, the lady from church, me, and a few other ladies volunteer at childcare for the kids of the moms that come on Tuesday morning. The kids get time to play, time to color, a snack, and most importantly, a Bible story taught so that they can understand it. Lifesaver's also has several events during the week like Mom and Me art classes, Scrapbooking, Bible study, to name a few. They also have a branch of the ministry called TLC that sends out boxes to moms who need basic things like diapers for their babies and sometimes food. I've worked in that building a few times. Also they assist some moms in earning their GED because a lot of the young moms haven't completed High School yet. One mom can't read, and one worker has been helping her learn to read! Their motto is: Repairing lives one heart at a time. Every week at Lifesavers we are hoping and praying that every minute spent in loving care of the precious children will result in eternal good. This past Saturday night I had opportunity to go to their annual fundraising banquet.  Look around in your area for ministries like this and consider volunteering or being in prayer for them. Abortion is a ever-growing plague, and organizations warring against it are always needed.
